The Department of Social Work was established in July, 1981 and is the pioneer department in Haryana and its neighboring states including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of Chandigarh, to meet the pressing need for scientific education and training in professional social work education. The department aims to:
Impart education, training and research in social work in order to provide professional man power / human resource in social welfare and allied fields.
Prepare and provide professional service and leadership, and Acquire and utilize knowledge of human behaviour, social systems, social policy, social service and institutional reconstruction.
The department is engaged in rendering consultation services to the private and public agencies besides extending voluntary support to local communities in eliciting participation in the developmental programmes and engaged in research on the social issues of local and national importance. Field Work forms an integral part of the training programme offered by the Department. It provides a laboratory situation to experiment with human behaviour and effect desired changes in better social functioning of the individuals, singly and in groups.
