Master in Library Science (MLS) is a two to three years postgraduate academic degree course of study in India. Library Science is an interdisciplinary field which comprises the study of the principles and practices of Library Administration.
The course is suitable for these candidates wants to conducts research as an information scientist and contributable to the development of the discipline of Information Science or Library Science. The course of study is designed to provide in-depth knowledge, information, techniques and about the activities associated with Library Science and Information Technology in a comprehensive manner.
The master's course of study is also suitable for those candidates wants to increase their knowledge for accelerating their career by exploring and acquire a critical understanding of Library Administration.The study is focused on theoretical and practical aspects and principles techniques in an academic discipline such as Application of Information Technology, Integrated Library Management, Information and Communication Process, Information Processing & Retrieval, System Analysis in Libraries, Research and Quantitative Methodology.
The candidate have to complete Bachelor Degree like, Bachelor in Library Science (BLS) or any other Bachelor Degree with relevant subjects like Information Technology or equivalent examination,with minimum aggregate 55% marks, such candidates are eligible to take admission in Master’s degree study program.
Candidates should have Passes Graduation in any stream with at least.50% marks.
This course requires study requires 2 to 3 years of time period in India, It's a Full Time professional degree course, but some candidates use part time, correspondence education program and also go for distance learning, online study option to earn this degree.
After the successful completion of this course, candidates can also pursue the higher studies and do M.Phil in Library Science, Ph.D (Doctorate in Library Science), and specialization or research oriented work in their respective field.

After the successful completion of the Master’s degree one can recognize as Librarian and able to work as Professor, Lecturer, Director (Head of Information Center), Junior Information Analyst, Information Architecture, Metadata Architecture, Information Broker, Researcher, Technical Assistant, etc.
