The Department of Mathematics was one of the few departments initiated at the time of establishment of the Post Graduate Center at Guntur by the Andhra University in 1967. The Department specializes in the fields of Algebra, Analysis, CONM, Differential Equations, Fuzzy algebra, Graph Theory etc. The Thrust areas of the department include Near Rings, Functional Analysis, and Graph Theory, Numerical Analysis and Universal Algebra.
The Department has produced 15 Ph.D., doctorates. Several products of department established their credentials as good researchers in reputed institutions such as I.I.T. Delhi, Central University, and Hyderabad and so on. The Department has been helping several students and college teachers in their pursuit for higher Mathematics. As many as 45 M.Phils have awarded and good number students are now working for their M.Phil/Ph.D degrees. A good number of research papers by research students and teachers of the department have been published in international and also national journals.
A couple of major research projects sanctioned by the U.G.C. were successfully completed by some of teachers of the department. One more major research project sanctioned by the U.G.C. is in progress under the principal investigatorship of Dr.Bhavanari Satyanaryana.
Several teachers, in recognition of their research output, are being invited by various Mathematical Associations and Universities in and outside India for delivering talks at National and International symposia, Conferences, Seminars and Refresher Courses.
One of our faculties in our department Dr. Bhavani Satyanaryana selected for INSA visiting Fellowship Award (2005-2006). Also Dr. Bhavanari Satyanaryana selected as a Scientist under Indo Hungarian Cultural Exchange Programme (2003) to do joint Research Work with Prof.Richard Wiegandt, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest. He was also selected as Sr. Scientist to visit Budapest. He was also selected as Sr.Scientist to visit Budapest for scientific discussions under Bilateral Exchange Programme (2005) of Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest & INSA, and New Delhi.
