Department of Biochemistry

The department of Biochemistry in Nagarjuna University started its career during the academic year 1997-98 with 20 students as a self- finance course. The initiative for this course is the then Vice-chancellor, Prof. SVJ Lakshman who took extreme care in starting of this course by giving priority providing necessary space with properly constructed laboratories, class rooms, chemicals, glassware and basic equipment before starting the course. As per the principles of the Self- Financing courses the teaching was started by the coordinator Prof. N.S.Prakasha Rao aided by one teaching assistant and senior guest faculty from sister universities and CSIR institutes in the first year. The course sustained the infantile problems and grew to the present status as very Strong teaching and research department in the University. The students of the department were successful in CSIR-JRF-NET examinations. The department has inter-disciplinary research activity with departments like Bio technology, Bio chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Environmental Sciences and vice-versa.
