Brief Introduction of the Department : The Department has been founded in 1968. The existing building has 1246.20 sq. m. built up area in the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Educational Campus, Amravati Road, Nagpur. The Department of Home Science is successfully running Post Graduate Courses in Food Science & Nutrition and Resource Management and M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes in all specializations in Home Science. The Department has well equipped laboratories for Nutritional Biochemistry, Advanced Nutrition, Advanced Food Science and Ergonomics.

30 + 6 (Gondwana University) As per University Norms For admission to the M.Sc. Home Science (Food Science and Nutrition) Semester I, a candidate shall have B.Sc. (Home Science), B.Voc. in Food Processing & Engineering /B.Sc. with Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics, B.Sc. with Nutrition of any other statutory university recognized equivalent thereto. (Preference will be given to B.Sc. Home Science students.)
24+5 (Gondwana University) As per University Norms For admission to the M.Sc. Semester I in Resource Management, a candidate shall have offered B.Sc. (Home Science), M.A. (Home Economics), Bachelor of Interior Design (BID) of the university or of any other statutory university recognized equivalent thereto.
2. M.Phil.
20+1(Total number of seats: 21 The eligibility criteria for the admission to the M.Phil. Programme is purely on the basis of Merit. 20 seats are reserved for students of Nagpur University and 01 seat for other university. 50% on Merit basis & (50% for reservation) As per University Norms

C) Details of Computers & its Accessories available in the Department:
25 computers, 03 laptops, 06 printers & 02 LCD projectors are available in the Department.
Students are using computer laboratory with internet connectivity on regular basis. The Department has got internet connection which the students and faculty use regularly for their academic and research purposes.
1) Department offers Diet Consultancy, Food Analysis Service, Housing Interiors and Landscape Design Service and Ergonomics Consultancy.
2) Department offers bone mineral density & body composition analysis free of cost for RTMNU employees.
3) Every year, entrepreneurship-cum-health expo is organized in the department.
4) Guest lectures & workshops are regularly conducted in the department.
5) Annual social gathering, various competitions and sports events are regularly organized.
6) Students prepare compost from waste in the department.
7) Under N.S.S. unit of the department, tree plantation & shramadaan is regularly taken up.
8) Students’ feedback about academic offering of the Department is taken every year.
About 260 students have been awarded Ph. D. in all five specializations of Home Science, HMCT, Cosmetic Technology & Home Economics.
From 2014 till 2019, 120 research papers have been published in national & international journals by faculty members. Faculty members are editors/referees/reviewers for esteemed national and international journals, Ph. D thesis examiners for various Universities, appointed on various academic bodies of the University and other Universities. All faculties are life members of various academic and professional bodies.
Consultancy Services Offered:
Department provides Diet Consultancy, Food Analysis Service, Housing Interiors and Landscape Design Service and Ergonomics Consultancy.
The provision of the assessment of body composition & bone mineral density is open for public on every Saturday from 10.00 am to 11.30 am. This provision is free of cost for RTMNU employees.

Expertise with respect to patient counseling, therapeutic nutrition, community nutrition & public health as well as food analysis for nutrients, housing interiors, landscape designing & ergonomics are available with the Department.
