Department of English

was established in 1958. It offers a Post graduate course in English studies and research. Its focus (since inception) was concentrated on British literature spread over six papers till the end of the twentieth century. The remaining optional papers used to accommodate American literature, Comparative literature. But because of the growth of new literatures /writings, new papers such as Films studies , Dalit literature, New trends in Indian writings , African-American literature are now incorporated in the new syllabus to justify the semester pattern introduced by the university after a decade of twenty first century.
