Post Graduate Teaching Department of Law

was established in the year 1963 under the Third Five Year Plan on the basis of the recommendations of UGC. The Department was established to promote advanced training in law and research. Our University adopted a Ph.D Ordinance which permitted registration of students for the Ph.D. Programme in Law. It became effective from the academic session 1973-74.

TWO YEARS FULL-TIME LL.M. (CBCS) COURSE [FOUR SEMESTERS]
Department conducts a fulltime Two Year (Four Semester) LL.M. program with the
following seven specializations:
1 Group A- International Law.
2 Group B- Constitutional Law and Administrative Law.
3 Group C- Intellectual Property Laws.
4 Group D- Business Law.
5 Group E- Environment and Legal Order.
6 Group F- Labour, Capital and Law.
7 Group G- Criminal Law.

=> MASTER OF HUMAN RIGHTS, DUTIES AND EDUCATION:
This is a two year Post Graduate Masters Degree Course in Human Rights and Duties
Education, started in the Department of Law from the academic session 2001-02. A
graduate from any discipline can take admission in this course. This course is as per the
UGC guidelines given in its CDS report.

The faculties of the department are continuously involved in the Legal Research through paper publications in reputed National Journal & Periodicals and paper presentations in various National and International Seminars.

The main thrust of the Department is on teaching of Research Methodology. The students of Masters of Law have to do two different kinds of research projects in fulfilment of their Master’s Degree in Law. One is a socio-legal research that trains them in empirical research methodology and in Fourth Semester they have to do a doctrinal research on a relevant contemporary subject wherein they are trained to develop their aptitude for research.

Research Centre:

The Department of Law is the Research Centre since its inception. It is instrumental in providing assistance to Research Scholars for completing their Ph.D. in Law. The area of ongoing research work covers a very wide arena including Business Laws, Cyber Laws, Constitutional and Administrative Laws, Labour Laws, Intellectual Property Laws, Environmental Laws, International Law, International Economic Law, International Trade Law, and Criminal Law. There are 13 Ph.D. Research Scholars registered under the Centre, 37 Ph.D. seats are vacant under the Research Centre. After the implementation of Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016, currently there is one recognized supervisor to guide Ph.D. research Work in the Department.

STUDENTS ACHIEVEMENTS FROM 2013 ONWARDS:
=> Fourteen students from the Department have cleared JMFC Examination and appeared for JMFC Interview out of which five have been appointed as Judicial Magistrates across Maharashtra till 2018.

=> More than 28 students from the Department have cleared NET/SET examination in Law from 2011-2019.
