The DST-FIST and UGC SAP assisted postgraduate Department of Chemistry is one of the oldest department in the central India to be established by the University of Nagpur in June 1963. It offers an excellent education in the field of chemical sciences along with research activities encompassing all major sub-disciplines of chemistry. The department has received funds from the University Grants Commission (UGC), DST, BRNS and DAE. The Department has organized national and international conferences, seminars, workshops, symposia and other academic programmes to facilitate and promote research in all branches of chemistry. Department has the unique facility of Gamma Irradiation which was procured through DST-FIST grant. The other departments in the University, affiiated colleges as well as the other Universities are taking help of the facility. GC-1200 is the unique facility in the central India. The Department has Procured major equipment LC-MS/MS triple quadruple from UGC-SAP, DRS-I.

Courses:

=> M. Sc (Four semesters course: Choice based credit system)
=> Ph.D.

Admission:

Masters Program (M.Sc.):
=> No. of students admitted in each session: 50
=> Duration- Two years (Four Semesters course)
=> Admission procedure: On the basis of merit and rules of the University
=> The reservation of seats is according to the Govt. of Maharashtra rules.

Eligibility:

=> B. Sc. with Chemistry as one of the subjects

Specialization:

=> Inorganic, organic, physical and analytical chemistry (offered from third semester)

Project:

=> at fourth semester

Research Programs (M. Phil. and Ph. D.):

=> Guidance for the Ph.D. degrees is offered in all the four main disciplines (Inorganic, organic, physical and analytical chemistry).
=> Admission criteria for Ph. D.: Candidates who have qualified NET/SET or PET (Ph. D. Entrance Test of RTM Nagpur University) can apply for the registration to Ph. D. programme.

Research:

All the faculty members are actively associated with research activities in different disciplines of chemistry. The research grants from the different agencies such as UGC, DST, BRNS, DRDO and CSIR have been received to individual faculty members. The department has received the funds from UGC SAP (DRS-I) and DST FIST (Level I) programme.
