DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY & TOXICOLOGY

The Department has well furnished pharmacology and toxicology laboratories aiding the undergraduate students practically in their courses and also helping the postgraduate students in their research works. The department is equipped with HPLC being used for analysis of pharmaceutical agents. The department is offering four major undergraduate courses and two postgraduate courses as minor to the students majoring other disciplines. Till date, the department has completed the research projects on a) pharmacokinetics of modern veterinary antibiotic formulations and fixing the milk withdrawal period b) pharmacokinetics and drug residues of enrofloxacin in sheep c) toxic potential of cypermethrin with special reference to testicular toxicity in animals. Presently the department is working in the ongoing projects on a) toxicity studies with regard to aflatoxicosis in animals and its amelioration with dietary supplementation of curcumin b) identification of nitrate/nitrite rich plants present in and around Bidar district c) evaluation of bioenhancing properties of curcumin on pharmacokinetic profile of selected therapeutic agents viz., antibiotics,antiinflammatory agents etc. The department is actively taking part in the extension activities of the university by organizing / participating in training programmes to the field veterinarians, para-veterinarians and farmers delivering subject related informations.
