Department of Animal Reproduction Gynecology and Obstetrics
The Department of Animal Reproduction, Gynecology and Obstetrics is a specialized referral unit for the Veterinary gynecology and obstetrics and a constituent department of the clinical veterinary services. It provides a learning environment for veterinary education, gynecological, obstetrical and genital surgical services in livestock and companion animals for the people of Bangalore in particular and Karnataka at large. This department offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Every year on an average three postgraduate and 1 Ph.D. student are enrolled in this department.
The faculty is part of the bull breeding soundness evaluation team of the state and central government semen stations. They provide extension service and education to farmers through publications and animal health camps, continuing education to fellow veterinarians through training, seminars and interactive sessions.
The department examines and takes care of nearly three thousand patients including live stock and companion animals. It provides clinical services for mating management of canines and felines including vaginal exfoliative cytology, artificial insemination, assisted mating, pregnancy diagnosis, assisted parturition, and infertility investigation, ultrasonographic examination of various conditions, birth control procedures and obstetrical and genital surgeries. For the livestock it provides artificial insemination, pregnancy diagnosis, obstetrical intervention, obstetrical and genital surgeries, infertility investigation, breeding soundness evaluation of bulls, ultrasound examinations for various conditions. There are five faculties in the department including Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professors.
