Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University DEPARTMENT OF AVIAN PRODUCTION AND MANAGEMENT A separate Dept. of A. P. M. was established in veterinary college Bidar on 17.06.04 by following the university procedure. The Dept. is offering three U.G. courses (LPM:322, AMP:321, AMP:411) and minor P.G. courses for the P.G. programme of other Depts. Like Anim. Nutrition, AHE, Pathology etc. The Dept. is operating one “Earn While You Learn” scheme for students in the form of rearing 500 broilers per batch. Around 4-5 students actually participate in rearing in each batch and in a year 16-18 students get benefited to obtain practical experience of raising poultry and others get practical knowledge out of it. The participants also get some profit share for rearing. Besides this, Dept. is periodically conducting some research trials in broilers which are outside funded by some private firms to test their new products. Such 5-6 trials have already been conducted till now and at present one is in progress. In addition to this, the poultry farmers are offered advice for their management as well as health problems in poultry rearing as and when they demand and farmers are encouraged to take up poultry farming, especially broiler rearing in around Bidar. In this context the Dept. had organized a “Poultry Scientists and Farmers Meet” at veterinary college, Bidar of two days on 21 & 22nd November, 2002.
