Department of Livestock Production and Management (LPM)
The Department of Livestock Production and Management (LPM) was established as a separate department in 1995 as per the norms of the VCI. The Department is presently offering eight courses, comprising a total of 16 credit hours, in the B.V.Sc. & A.H. programme.
The Department is presently managing the various livestock farms comprising 24 dairy cattle, 87 sheep, 15 goats, 1 horse and other lab animals, in addition to fodder production and other agricultural operations. The Department is presently conducting research on the performance traits of crossbred calves and Kenguri sheep. A research project on the development of a dairy herd management software package for large-scale dairy farms is also being taken up.
The Department is involved in various extension activities comprising on-campus training for farmers, extension workers and employees of industries involved in animal husbandry & allied activities; off-campus training and awareness programmes in collaboration with co-operatives, NGOs and other Government organizations; technical guidance and farm advisory services to famers of Bidar and neighbouring districts regarding planning and management of animal husbandry projects.
