Department of Fisheries Economics
The establishment of an independent Department of Fisheries Resources and Economics shows the importance given for the fisheries social science research and their potential contributions to the issues of fisheries, coastal resources management and to aquaculture development. The issues of resource especially, have become scenes of intense competition amongst various user groups, resource management, including the required institutional development and allocation of the available cost and benefits, have become increasingly important. This has increased the significance of the application of economic tools in decision-making analysis.
The faculty of the Department of Fisheries Economics offers course for both UG and PG programmes, besides participating as major advisors and members of the advisory committees. The Department has been involved in undertaking independent external funded research projects and providing extension and consultancy services to different stakeholders. In the course of the last 10 years, the Department has developed a good rapport with other national and international institutes.
