The Department of Physics, Kalasalingam University was started in 1984 through the pioneering vision of “Kalvi Vallal” Thriu T. Kalasalingam, it has grown into a department of research, with excellent active research in all front line areas of research. Presently the department is offering Ph.D., Pre Doctoral (M.Phil Physics) and Post Graduate (M.Sc. Physics) courses. Department of Speech And Hearing Impaired
Kalasalingam University is the first Technical Institute to offer special B.Tech. Programs in the whole of Asia for children with speech and hearing impairment. This special programme was formally inaugurated by the then President of India, Hon. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on 5th January 2007. The medium of instruction is English. During the first two years of study, the students are prepared for Senior Secondary Examination conducted by NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling, MHRD, Govt of India).

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was instituted in the year 1993 to start a 4-year B.E. degree programme affiliated to the Madurai Kamarajar University. The first batch of students graduated from the department in the year 1997. A post graduate programme leading to M.E. degree in ‘Digital Communication and Networking’ was introduced in the year 2001. Consequent upon the integration of all engineering colleges under Anna University, Chennai, the affiliation both programmes were shifted to the Anna University from 2002 onwards.

The Department of Biotechnology, one of the vibrant departments of Kalasalingam University (KLU), had its humble beginnings in the year 2002 with its offering of a 4-year undergraduate program in Biotechnology. This young and academically active department has rapidly won many laurels to its credit. In 2004, the department moved to an independent three-storey building which houses its research labs, discipline-specific teaching labs, individual faculty offices and classrooms. In 2006, the department was recognized as a research centre for pursuing doctoral programs.
