Department of Speech And Hearing Impaired

Kalasalingam University is the first Technical Institute to offer special B.Tech. Programs in the whole of Asia for children with speech and hearing impairment. This special programme was formally inaugurated by the then President of India, Hon. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on 5th January 2007. The medium of instruction is English. During the first two years of study, the students are prepared for Senior Secondary Examination conducted by NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling, MHRD, Govt of India). These students are given an option to specialize in one of the following branches: Computer Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, & Information Technology.

Infrastructure :

Audiology Lab :
Audiology Lab is well equipped with the necessary hardware and other infrastructure.TheLab is used to test & monitor the hearing level of the students. Based on the test results students are advised to wear the appropriate hearing aids.

Speech Lab :
Speech Lab is used to conduct the speech therapy classes to improve the speech level of H.I students.

Computer Lab :
Computer lab has 50 high-end systems students used to computer programming classes & also for English language class.

Library :
There are over 600 books in the library. The library in-charge takes care of maintenance & issue of books. Students used the library during the library hours & outside classes.
