Department of English

English Department is one of the principal Departments of Kalasalingam University. It has been quite effectively functioning from 1984, the year the parent of Kalasalingam University, AKCE was born. The Department attained an enormous significance ever since the Multi-National Corporations started recruiting young Engineering graduates with communication competencies. For the past fifteen years, there has been a new shift wherein the English Department lays a lot of importance on improving the communication abilities and also the soft skills abilities of the students in consonance with the Industrial needs. In this way, the English Department has directly and indirectly helped thousands of the Kalasalingam Engineering graduates secure lucrative job offers with fanciful salaries.

Infrastructure :

The English Department has a well-established Language lab. The objective of providing the lab exposure to the students is to help them overcome their mother tongue interference and facilitate them communicates comfortably in life’s diverse situations. All the First Year students, irrespective of their program affiliation, get a feel of the Language Lab. Every week, these students have an hour of training at the Lab. Students anxiously look forward to their lab exposure, for it is one of their interesting places to sit comfortably and practice.

The Language Lab is a fully computerized one with adequate cozy furniture to sit and work. There are 70 student booths and one teacher console. Centrally located and on a higher platform, the teacher can monitor the progress and the activities of the students. The trainees are given opportunities to listen to British Pronunciation, American Pronunciation and Standard Indian Pronunciation. Likewise, students get a feel of all the three major accents; namely, British, American and Neutral. Students can also listen to interesting conversations, dialogues and anecdotes with their individual hearing device.
