The centre is actively involved in understanding the natural processes and anthropogenic factors and their impacts on environmental and ecological systems. The centre wants to inculcate scientific knowledge and formulate strategies for sustainable use of natural resources as well as to mitigate environmental degradations, for the benefit of society.

The students would be able to develop the capacity to study, analyse and seek solutions to environmental problems, and to help formulating policies and strategies for environmental planning. The teaching methods comprise field study, laboratory training, mathematical modelling, data analysis, policy analysis, and evaluation of complex environmental issues. The Programme includes such core courses as Introduction to ecology and environmental sciences; Statistical methods and computer applications; Environmental chemistry; Social and developmental perspectives; Environmental geosciences; Atmospheric sciences and climate change; Hydrology and water resources; Energy resources and management; Environmental economics, Policies, Laws and Ethics; Environmental impact assessment and environmental management planning; Water and air pollution and control; Environmental biotechnology. To promote research activities, the centre is in the process of collaborating with national and international academic institutions and research organizations. The centre is intended to highlight regional and global environmental research issues.
