Department of Mathematics
The main objective of the postgraduate programme is to train the students in all the basic fields of Mathematics, inculcate skill for creative thinking, understanding fundamental concepts of the subject, problem solving and for achieving professional competence in mathematics. After successful completion of the course the student will have the capacity to go for a research and teaching career and for jobs that require logical thinking and innovative mind. The courses have been so designed that the student will be able to learn the subject in a systematic and methodical manner under able guidance of the faculty and general environment of the university.
The 80-credit programme consists of five paper of equal credit in each semester. Of the 20 courses, Real and functional analysis, Linear algebra, Discrete mathematics, Ordinary and partial differential equations, Topology, Differential geometry, Measure theory, and Programming are compulsory courses. Seven papers are elective in the third and fourth Semesters. The areas of research of the faculty members are: Group Theory, Wavelet Analysis and Fluid Mechanics.
