About University of Burdwan
University of Burdwan (Burdwan University) is a public university located in Bardhaman, West Bengal. It was established by the West Bengal government as a teaching and affiliating university on 15 June 1960 with six graduate departments and thirty undergraduate colleges spread over three districts that come under the jurisdiction of the university. The jurisdiction covers the districts of Burdwan, Birbhum, and Hooghly (except Srirampur). The main campus of the university is of 398 acres (approx). The university has been awarded status 4 by the NAAC on 22/03/2001 and B++ Grade awarded on 31/03/2007.
The university offers more than 30 Undergraduate and 66 Postgraduate courses. There are 227 Esteemed Faculties and 189 affiliated colleges (including degree colleges, B.Ed. colleges and private professional institutes). For admissions to the Engineering Faculty at the undergraduate level, students are admitted through the WBJEE, an entrance examination open to students from all over India. Postgraduate students in engineering are admitted through GATE. Admission to the Arts and Science Faculties is by individual examinations for each of the departments at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
This university has a Directorate of Distance Education (DDE, BU) for conducting post-graduate studies in distance mode. The University have one “Central Library” and departmental Library.
