      About Deshbandhu Mahavidyalaya, Burdwan

      Deshabandhu Mahavidyalaya, Chittaranjan was founded on 3rd September, 1973 under the aegis of Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, Hindustan Cables Ltd, Rupnarayanpur and a group of philanthropists of the area. Initially the college was affiliate of The University of Burdwan. Subsequently from the academic session 2015-16 the college has been affiliated to the newly established Kazi Nazrul University.

      Dshabandhu Mahavidyalaya, Chittaranjan has a glorious history of imparting higher education. It offers honours and general courses in science, humanities, commerce and also professional courses.

      Deshabandhu Mahavidyalaya, an affiliate institution of Kazi Nazrul University, Asansol and a registered academy of the University Grants Commission imparts instructions on Honours and general degree courses in Science, Humanities and Commerce streams and professional degree courses in BBA & BCA.

      Established in the year 1973, under the aegis of Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, Hindustan Cables Ltd. and a group of philanthropists, it traversed a terrain of hard times and had landed, with the blessings of the Govt. of West Bengal, the U.G.C., the CLW, the HCL, the people of the locality and many other well-wishers, to a plateau ultimately.

      The college admits students in Honours Courses in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Economics, Bengali, English, Hindi, Political Science, Philosophy, History, Sanskrit, Accountancy and Geography and General Courses in Bengali, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Economics, Political Science, Philosophy, History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Commerce and Computer Science.

      Available College Facilities & Amenities

      List of facilities available at Deshbandhu Mahavidyalaya, Burdwan for students.

      Students are provided with a Reader's Card for reading room in the library and a Borrower's Card which enables them to take books on loan. These cards are non-transferable and must be returned at the end of the session. A general student may be issued two books at a time, one book from the Book bank for a maximum period of three months and one from the college li brary for a maximum period of 14 days. However an honours student may take three books one from the Book Bank for a maximum period of three months and two from the college li brary for a maximum period of 14 days. Detailed library rules are available in the library. A fine of 50 paise per day may be charged for retaining the library books after 14 days.
      Sports facilities are available in the campus. Annual Sports event is held in the month of December in every year
      Good transportation facilities for its students, staff members and visiting guests.
      Proper healthcare arrangements are done by college. Proper Medical Facilities are available
      24-hours internet access for all. Wi-Fi for all
      The college has a Canteen in the campus. (For the benefit of the students and staff)
      The College has two Computer labs with latest software and Internet facility.
      A limited number of seats are available in the college hostel. This accommodation is given to outstation candidates. Presently hostel is under renovation.
      The college provides various amenities for students and offer many opportunities for participation in the corporate life of the institution. Through their union students can participate in Debate, Seminar, Games & Sports, Essay & Story Competition, Music Competition, Publication of Magazine etc
      All needy and deserving students can apply for fee concessions. Fees must be paid until the concession has been obtained. Concession is subject to good conduct, regular attendance and satisfactory progress in studies. It may be withdrawn, if any student, at any time found wanting in any of these.
      The education of the student is not complete at Deshabandhu Mahavidyalaya until he/she is professionally placed in a position of his / her choice. Towards this end the college organizes placement meets periodically. The College has setup a Career Counseling Cell as per the guidelines for Development Grant to College during the XIth plan period. This cell serves as a Information guidance and counseling with free accessibility and Internet based global connectivity and exchange of Information of Professional placement.
      The college subscribes to the Anandabazar Patrika, The Statesman, Sanmarg and few periodicals viz. All India Appointment Gazette, Karmakshetra, Karmasansthan & Employment News to inculcate the habit of reading in the students and keep them abreast with the current affairs.
