Department of Urdu The Department of Urdu was established in 1994 in the Regional Centre — Koyilandy, Kerala. It offers postgraduate and research programs. It is the only centre of higher learning and research in Urdu, in Kerala. Department of Theatre Arts The Department of Theatre Arts came into existence in 1997. M.A. course in Theatre Arts was established in the year 2000. It is one of the Kerala’s leading and most unique educational theatres. This was the first course of its kind in any university in Kerala. The teachers in the Department are world famous artistes.

Department of Social Work
Department of Social Work The Department of Social Work was establishment in November 1995 with 120 students. At present there are 200 students (two batches). We have twenty qualified teachers engaged in Social Work training and other developmental activities. The total intake of students in a year is 105 including admissions based on constitutional reservations. The course is of two year duration consisting four semesters. It offers specializations in * Rural and Urban Community Development * Medical and Psychiatric Social Work

Department of Vedic Studies
Department of Vedic Studies School of Vedic Studies was established in the University in 1997. Many Seminars, short-term courses, guest lectures and public lectures in different cities in Kerala and different centers of the University were conducted on various topics connected with Vedas and allied subjects. These helped to create awareness among the vast knowledge reflected in Vedic texts. Great Vedic and Sanskrit Scholars of Kerala and other parts of India participated in these programmes.

Department of Sanskrit Vedanta
Department of Sanskrit Vedanta Faculty of Indian Metaphysics was the first faculty instituted in the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit at its inception. M.A in Vedanta was the first academic programme introduced in the University. Vedanta is one of the six orthodox systems of Indian philosophy. There are different schools in Vedanta which have their separate identity due to the various interpretations of the Upanishad. Upanishads are the final portions of the Vedic literature dealing with spirituality.

Department of Sanskrit Sahitya The Department of Sanskrit Sahitya comes under the Faculty of Sanskrit Literature and commenced operations way back in 1993. The Sanskrit Sahitya Department frequently conducts seminars and lectures on eminent scholars making their contributions to modern Sanskrit Literature. State-level Vidvat Sadas under the Central Government Scheme “Strengthening of Sanskrit Studies” was hosted by the University, apart from active participation in various seminars and workshops on Sanskrit Literature on a local, State, National or International Level.

Department of Sanskrit Nyaya Department of Nyaya was started in 1994 at the Headquarters Kalady and Regional Centre Thiruvananthapuram. The Department offers courses for B.A., M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. there are M.A., and B.A. courses in Thiruvanthapuram Regional Centre. Along with those in Main centre, Kalady, there are courses for M.Phil and Ph.D. also. M.A. course in Nyaya began in the Regional Centre Thrissur from 2005 onwards.

Department of Dance Sree Sankaracharya University started its Degree course in Dance in 1995. It is in this University that a dance course was started for the first time at degree level. In the beginning, only the foundation course (equal to +2) functioned at Kalady. In 1999 classes, on the degree level started. Though the department was one, it had two specializations, Bharathanatyam and Mohiniyattom. M.A. course was started in the Dance Department. It has full strength every year. The admission is based on entrance examination and talent.
