The program is designed to expose the students to the rural life of people and the problem prevailing in the rural areas. India is a land of villages; rural economy is the backbone of the Indian economy. There is a desperate need for strengthening the rural economy. The program addresses such issues. India has adopted decentralized governance which is necessary to involve the people in the local administration. Therefore, this course trains the students to understand the structure and functions of local self-government. Several NGOs are engaged in the process of rural development of India where many opportunities are opened to the degree holders. India needs trained Rural Development Practitioners as rural development initiatives are the top priorities of the government. Besides, many more projects are being undertaken by the corporate and private sectors in the rural areas under CSR, etc. The new policies and legislations for business demand for a specific percentage of investment in the social sector development and rural areas are getting a share of such development. There is a need for Rural Development Practitioners who can manage the rural development projects while working hand in hand with the business houses and corporate bodies. The MA program attempts to fill the need of human resources of development agencies and market agents working for and in rural communities.
