Department of History

The department of History is one of the oldest and most popular Departments of the State of Rajasthan. The Department is catering the need and aspiration of higher education and learning. The Department is also providing the facilities for research. The Department of History imparts education upto M.A. standard in all the three groups i.e. Ancient, Medieval & Modern Indian History and also runs B.A. Hons. The Department has made impressive progress in research activities. The Department is also imparting education of M.Phil. Course in History on self-sufficiency basis. The courses and syllabus is so framed that is can meet the requirement of both students choosing competitive services and further education and research in different fields of specialization history as such.

The University department of History is the descendent of the History Department of the former Jaswant College where the latter was born in 1929 and from where it was transplanted in S.M.K. College in 1954. On July 14, 1962, the University came into existence and the Department of History was merged in it. Presently the Department is headed by Prof. (Dr.) Vinita Parihar.
