Department of Political Science
The Department of Political Science, which completes 30 years of Political Science teaching, has consciously attempted to develop a holistic framework for the study of politics. Hence the areas of Political Theory and Thought, International Studies, Political Sociology and Economy, South Asia, Public Administration and most of all the study of the political process in Goa find adequate attention. The Department has thus contributed significantly to teaching and research in Goa. Within this framework the department has sought to develop resaerch on themes concerning Goa and has thus produced eight doctoral dissertations and several articles and studies on Goa. Increasingly the department is recognized as a Centre possessing expertise on Democratic Politics, Human Rights, South Asia and Goa Politics.
Sponsored Research Projects and Consultancies have been executed by the faculty for Lokniti, New Delhi, Institute of Social Science, New Delhi, World Bank, Ford Foundation,(India), Social Science Research Council, (New York). This adacemic and research interest is reflected in the Department's core competencies which are :(1) Democratic Politics (2)Human Rights (3) Public Administration & Decentralised Governance (4) Government & Political Processes in Goa (5) Government & Politics of South Asia

Equipment/Facilities
The Department has a Resource Room & a Goa Studies Resource Centre.The Resource Room has a documentation section, a journals section & newspapers section.
The Department has 3 Computers and email/internet facilities at the disposal of faculty & students. It also has a laptop for use by research students. Also 14 PCs, scanner, laser printer at UGC Social Science Computer facility is available to our students.

Extension Activities
The Department has conducted training programmes for Village Panchayat Members in 1997 and Zilla Parishad Members in May, 2000 in collaboration with Directorate of Panchayats & Goa Institute of Rural Development & Administration Goa. Plans for holding Certificate/diploma Courses in Human Rights, Government and Politics of Goa and Indian Political Thought for general public are being examined. The overall purpose of the Department is to develop in students a capacity to critically analyze issues and events of the polity & society and to influence the public realm with new ideas required by the times.

Student Exchange Programme
The Department is part of the Tourism Study Group along with Department of Sociology & Department of Managment Studies which participates in a Student Exchange programme with University of Aveiro, Portugal.

Scheme of Instruction (Semester System)
The Department has endeavoured to impart knowledge & analytical skills through multiple teaching-learning & evaluation methods. Teaching-learning takes place through Lectures, Guest Lectures by National & International Scholars, Seminars and Conferences primarily aimed at introducing students to contemporary debates in the discipline. Students themselves are required to make seminar presentations, participate in group discussions and tutorials.
Internal Evaulation is done through Surprise Tests, Open Book exams, Home Assignments, Announced Tests. External Evaluation occurs through End Semesters Exams and Dissertation at the end of the IV Semester.
