Department of Marine Science
Goa University was established in the year 1985. To achieve the goal of training man power in the field of ocean sciences, it was decided to start an interdisciplinary programme in Marine Sciences. Accordingly, a separate Department was established in the year 1985.
The Department offers postgraduate (M.Sc.) programme in Marine Science. Marine Sciences is an interdisciplinary programme with common courses in the first year (I & II semesters) and specialization in the second year (III &IV semesters). Specialization offered at present are Physical Oceanography, Marine Chemistry, Marine Biology and Marine Geology. The Department also offers research (Ph.D.) programme in Marine Sciences.
The faculty members of Marine Sciences have expertise in Ocean Science Studies with special reference to, Physical Oceanography, Marine Chemistry, Marine Biology and Marine Geology. The faculty members of Marine Sciences have successfully completed Research Projects funded from Department of Ocean Development, Ministry of Environment and Forests, University Grants Commission Indian Space Research Organization. Faculty members are presently engaged in carrying out research through projects funded by Department of Ocean Development, Indian Space Research Organization and Ministry of Shipping.
