Department of Political Science

The Department was set up in 1973 and since then it has set reasonably high standards for itself. During its 35 years of existence the Department has fulfilled many of its goals with a fair amount of success. The first Chairperson, Prof. K.H.Cheluvaraju laid the foundations of the department. He later served as the Vice-Chancellor of Gulbarga University, as President of the Indian Political Science Association, and as a member of the Second Backward Classes Commission. Successive Chairpersons along with all the faculty members have contributed to the growth of the Department. Right since its inception the department has always had a dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff, which has been a major factor for its growth. A work culture peculiar to the Political Science department has take shape over the years. The Department has created the right atmosphere for encouraging research and 'developing innovative teaching methods'. The Department regularly organizes 'Special/Extension' Lectures for the benefit of the students. The Department has also been regularly organising UGC sponsored 'Refresher Courses' for college teachers. The Department has undertaken various projects and has also organised a number of international, national and state level seminars, conferences and workshops. In the academic years 2006-2008 alone six major national and international conferences/seminars/workshops were organised by the department.
