Bachelor of Computer application (BCA)

The Department of Computer Application was established way back in the year 1998, with the blessings of his holiness, with a vision to inculcate quality education to the geographically disadvantaged and under privileged students hailing from rural areas in and around Kanchipuram and train them in the ever changing field of Computer Science and IT . The department encompasses various UG and PG courses under its umbrella, namely BCA and M.Sc. Computer Science and Technology (5 years Integrated Course) boasting around 600 students in its wings.

The Department is streamlined with good infrastructure and equipped with a start-of-the-art Laboratory, consisting of over 150 computers with latest software and cutting-edge technologies, used to train the students to meet the growing demands of the ever evolving IT field.
The department is proud of having consistently producing University Rank Holders including First Ranks and Gold Medals both in the U.G and P.G levels.
The Department employs an Integrated Package of Innovative practices for career development of the students. They include,

Organizing Department Forums every week in a bid to enhance Interpersonal Skills and Competitive Spirit among students, wherein the students are indulged in paper presentation, group discussion and other activities. “IT ALERT FORUM” is being organized by the PG students. “STEEPING STONES” is the other forums being organized by the final year students of B.C.A respectively.

Conducting specialized Placement Training Programmes to our students with the help of corporate trainers that gives them an edge over others during company interviews and placement offers.

Organizing Recruitment Programmes, by inviting reputed IT-companies and MNC’s such as INFOSYS, HCL, WIPRO, TCS, CTS, IBM for an on-campus placement to give the much needed impetus to our students’ career.

Organizing Guest Lectures delivered by eminent scholars and professionals in an effort to make our students be aware of the current trends in IT and instil new ideas into their minds.

The Department has established an association named SAINT(Sankara Association of INformation Technology) which provides a pool of innovative ideas and emerging trends for the young minds to thrive upon. It envisages new vistas for the budding talents to prosper.

In the odd-semester SAINT organizes a two-day State Level Symposium named “GOLDEN GATES” for the academicians and students alike from other institutes to present their research papers.

In the even-semester SAINT organizes a two-day State Level Information Technology Fest named “COMFETE” for the students of other colleges from all over the state to enhance their employability skills.

Bachelor of Commerce (BCom)

Department of Commerce is one of the Prestegious and Premier Departments of the College having produced lot of Chartered Accountants, Cost Accountants and Business Executives. The Department offers Bachelor of Commerce (General) Programme affiliated to the University of Madras.

Core Subjects: Financial Accounting, Cost and Management Accounting, Income Tax Law and Practice, Business Communication, Banking and Finaicial Systems, International Business

Other Subjects: Soft Skills, English, Tamil and Sanskrit.

Value Added Programmes: The Department is recognised as a Center for offering ICWAI Coaching classes. The Course is provided as a Value Added Programme to the Students of the Department. Tally, which is one of the much needed programme is also offered with the association of the Tally organisations.

Other Activities:

To Develop the subject knowledge, presentation skills, communication skills and leadership abilities, the association of Commerce Department called C CLUB is meeting every week with a paper presentation, Guest Lecture on the latest topics, Group Discussion, Events like Ad zap and other competitions, which help the students to enrich their skills.

Candidates for admission shall be required to possess a minimum of 40% in the main branch of study of a Bachelors Degree of the University of Madras or any other University or a qualification recognised as equivalent thereto. On selection, the candidates other than the University of Madras have to produce their eligibility and the recognition certificate from the University of Madras.

General Information

Prescribed Applications are available at the College Office on the payment of Rs.150 /-by cash for UG, RS.250 /-for PG and Rs.500 /-for M.B.A. Out station applicants can send a DD adding Rs.25 /-drawn in favor of the principal, Sri Sankara Arts and Science College on any bank payable at Kanchipuram. Separate application forms are to be used for Evening College. Application form may also be downloaded from our website www.sankaracollege.edu.in.

All applicants should bring their original TC Conduct and Community certificates and Mark sheets along with the photo copies duly attested, a passport size photograph and their parent / Guardian at the time of interview for admission.

The fees recommended by the Government for self -financing Arts and Science colleges will be applicable for all students of UG and PG Classes.

Fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances. The College does not collect donation or capitation fees in any form either before, at the time or after admission.

Admission is subject to the verification of Mark Sheets by the Director of Government Examinations and if the Mark Sheets are found to be bogus, admission will be cancelled besides criminal action being taken.

Separate Hostel facilities are available for outstation men and women students. There is a vegetarian mess run on the Dividing system. Application for admission into the Hostel can be made to the Hostel warden only after admission into the college. Admission to the Hostel cannot be claimed as a mater of right. Separate Hostel facilities are available for women. There is a canteen inside the college premises. College Buses provides service to the students at nominal fare.

All students should conform to the rules of discipline and good behavior and should not indulge in any activities directed against the authorities or the Government. In all matters connected with the college the decision of the college authorities is final.

The Last Date for the Receipt of filled in application is 10 days from the date of publication of Plus Two & University of Madras Degree results for UG and PG respectively.
