Department of Statistics
The Department of Statistics was established in the year 1976 with a view to cater the needs in Western Odisha with Prof. Jitendriya Sarangi as its first professor. The dept. has academic autonomy with nine sanctioned teaching posts out of which at present there are four faculty members (two professors, one reader and one lecturer).
The department offers specialization in Stochastic Processes, Queueing Theory, Inventory, Operations Research, Applied Statistics, Bio-Statistics, SQC & Reliability. The faculty of the dept. is highly qualified and is engaged in active research in collaboration with renowned professors of international stature. In the past the dept. has completed many UGC/DST funded research projects.
Recently one research project has been sanctioned by UGC. The dept. has its own well equipped computer laboratory with many latest softwares. The dept. has organized many National and International conferences. Students of other departments of the University are imparted teaching in Research Methodology courses in the dept. The Department has MOU with the AIMSCS, Hyderabad.
