Department of Oriya

The Department of Odia was started in the year 1968 as per the plan proposal approved by the UGC and was oriented for special emphasis on Folklore,Fiction,Drama,Modern poetry with special studies on Gangadhar Meher.The intake capacity of the Department was increased to 48.M.Phil course was introduced with15 students in 1978 to create interest for planned research and preliminary training for Ph.D. degree.

The Department grew up as a center of higher studies to bring to lime light the culture of Odisha in general and Western Odisha in particular.Special attraction and interest of the scholars and students are drawn towards the newly started Gangadhar Museum and Folk Museum in which some original writings of the poet and folk materials of gone by days are preserved for the research purpose.The Department has published many books on the basis of those research to its credit, as its own publications.
