The Department of Environmental Science in Sambalpur University was approved by the UGC during VIIth plan and was established in 1989 as the only post graduate department of its kind in the State of Orissa and of the few in the country. The department runs the regular programme at M. Sc., M. Phil., M. Tech. and Ph.D. levels. Two P. G. Diploma Courses run through distance education mode are also offered. i.e., Environmental Education and Management and Industrial Safety & Health.
