The first batch of MVA came out in 1971. Both the courses ran successfully and now admits a large number of students from all over the country.

The department has specialized teachers to teach Intaglio, Lithography, Relief printing, Serigraphy and Photography. The department handles the initiation programme to Art Criticism students.
In the VIII Five Year Plan the department acquired papermaking unit, which added a very important facility to experiment in a new medium. The department held a major workshop with an American artist John Babcock & this gave a lead to experimentation in this medium.
