Polymer Engineering

About

Polymer engineering is a field of engineering that designs, analyses and modifies polymer materials. Polymer engineers use the principles of thermodynamics, process design, plant design and transport phenomena to build new products. Polymers are of two types thermoplastics and thermosets which helps in defining their areas of application.

Polymers are used for building structures for aerospace and automobiles, fishing rods and bicycles. Polymer engineers work primarily in the field of plastics development. They develop new plastics or assist in the testing and evaluation of products.

Polymer engineers work towards development of new polymers, equipment design for polymer processing, project engineering and process management. Polymer engineers work in many fields, including thermoplastics or elastomers.

Bachelor's degree in polymer engineering includes following subjects physical and organic chemistry, calculus, higher mathematics, physics, fluid mechanics, mechanics of deformable bodies, electronics, computers and English.
