Science communication is an emerging academic and professional discipline, arose early 1980 and nowadays it has become a very widespread topic of conversation among scientists, journalists, communicators and other media persons with vast spectrum of existing science knowledge.
Nobody can deny the important role that science is playing in the daily lives of the masses. It is a fact that science is not only a tool for material development and prosperity of a country, but also a powerful tool for the mental growth of masses. After independence government started to think how to convey our scientific achievements to the general public for growing their outlook scientifically, because scientific methodology imparts analytical thinking, rational outlook and sharpens insight. We can also keep them in touch of latest development of science and technology (S&T) thus enriching their knowledge equipped with reasoning abilities making society enlighten.
Govt. of India has established National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) during 1982 in Department of Science and Technology to initiate activities related with science and technology communication. It made practical attempts to popularize science and technology and established a good network for science communicators and developed man-to-man communication systems. NCSTC moderates, integrates, coordinates, catalyses and supports science popularization at micro and macro level. It helps to make instance relationship between science, society and media.
