M.D KayaChikitsa- The conceptual and operational framework of Ayurveda is wide enough to include all that is essential to make a man healthy and happy. Charaka Samhita is the most important scripture on Kayachikitsa . Kayachikitsa is the first branch of Astanga Ayurveda that deals with general medicine. The total treatment procedure is called Kaya Chikitsa ( internal medicine), wherein kaya means 'body' and chikitsa means 'treatment'. It is the major clinical department of the faculty.The entire Ayurvedic therapeutics is based on the concept of Agni. The concept of Kaya (Agni) is unique and is responsible for bio- transformation. Harmonious blending of the body, sense organs, mind and soul is well defined as life. By achieving optimum health one can enjoy the ultimate goals of life namely virtue -dharma, wealth - artha , enjoyment - kama, and salvation - moksha . Maintenance as well as promotion of the health in a healthy and cure of illness in a diseased are the unique objectives of Ayurveda.Maintenance of health is observed by systematized daily routine dinacarya, life in accordance with season rtucarya and well planned schedules of diet and exercise . This system also recognizes the role of mind in the causation and cure of diseases. So strict mental discipline and adherence to moral values are considered as pre requisite for health.
