Department of Journalism & Mass Communication

The Department was established in1978 with the starting of a one year graduate course leading to a Bachelors Degree in Journalism(BJ).Subsequently a two year post graduate programme in Communication and Journalism (MCJ) was introduced in 1988 to meet the ever growing demand for professionally trained in the field of journalism and mass communication.At present the department serves as a centre for Ph.D. programme in journalism and offers supervision of research funded postgraduates .Ten research scholars are pursing the PhD.programme in journalism. OBJECTIVES- The post graduate programme is structured to help students acquire skills which would enable them to work in different media like newspapers,magazines,radio,TV,PR department,ad agencies ad also in the areas of research.Though the emphasis of training is on the print media,the course also provides an understanding of communications,its evolution,technology and role in the twenty first century with particular reference to recent developments in the application of electronic media and information technology.It also offers an opportunity for an in-depth study through a dissertation in the field of mass communication.
