Idhaya College for Women was founded by the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Puducherry in the Jubilee year 2000. It is established to fulfill the vision of the 24th General chapter moulding self - reliant women of our predilection by providing higher education irrespective of caste and creed. The congregation was started in Puducherry in the year 1844. It realizes the absolute need for women's education. It firmly believes that growth in women's education would be instrumental in fostering and raising the quality of family life. The college aims at training the young women of quality and serves the society injustice and love. Every student while attaining knowledge and intellectual vigor strives to shine wonderfully and excel as a perfect model of women hood.
The motto of the college is 'Strive to Shine'. The bangled fist that holds the torch is the symbol with a message that women are no more weaker section, they are going to dispel the darkness of ignorance and to literate the whole world and bring out liberation to women from their bondage.
They will uphold justice and love to the whole world. The open book at the bottom is "The Bible" the living word of God. It is the book of redemption for the lost mankind. It helps to obtain a new freedom and a new life. Idhaya College functions as self-financing College affiliated to Bharathidasan University. It is approved by the government of Tamilnadu G.O.NO.237. This College follows the syllabus offered by Bharathidasan University.
Idhaya College for Women is one of the ancient and prestigious institutions run by the Franciscan Sister of the Immaculate Heart of Mary's Congregation, Puducherry in the jubilee year 2000. College has a student strength numbering to about 3000, Pursuing 10 under Graduate, 8 post Graduate and 5 Research Program and one Doctoral Programme . The College aims at training young women of quality to be leaders in all walks of life and, serve their fellow men in justice, truth and love.
The College is located in the pilgrim city of kumbakonam and affiliated to Bharathidhasan University. The college is situated near the railway station and the Bus-stand where relevant transport facilities are available. The climate of the town is very moderate and favorable to the students at all circumstances. A good hostel facility with hygienic food and fresh air accommodation is available. The fresh air, sweet medicated water and vast area make the campus very healthy. The serene area provides a conductive atmosphere for the students to concentrate on their studies. The existing building consists of Administrative Block, Computer Block, Lingual Block, Library Block, Conference Hall, Hostel Block, Amenities Block, Mess and Residential Accommodation for the staff members of the college.
The total building blithe area is 13 ½ sq feet. This great temple of higher learning has produced a number of Academicians, Educationists, Scientists, Administrators, Intellectuals, Social Workers, Computer Professionals and others of national and international repute.

Master of Computer Application (MCA)
On 25.7.2007 our department inaugurated function was conducted. Dr. Manivel Dept of geology Bharathidasan University presided over the function.
Our department was conducted seminar on "Computer Application in Banking". The manager from C.U.B presided over the function.
The inaugural function for the certificate course "Hardware" was conducted along with the co-ordinates.
On this day "WIPRO" conducted interview for III year students. Our department students participated and G. Bavitiraa from III CS was selected.
Our department Exnora students went to Cauvery college Trichy and they participated in a seminar under the topic " GLOBAL WARMING" III computer science students were participated in that seminar.
The chief guest for the seminar were Mr. Mohan, President of state students Exnora chief guest Mr.K.P. Kanthaswamy ( Deputy Commissioner of IFS ) and Mrs. R. Sujatha the principal of Cauvery college. She gave the speech on Pollution and cause Greeen house effect.
On 23rd February 2008 our department students attended campus interview for TCS in sastra college in kumbakonam. Nearly 20 students were attended the interview.
