ENGLISH DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES
All Association activity was inaugurated on 25.7.07, with Mr. Manivel Dept. of Geology as the Chief Guest. Who delivered a lecture on humanism love and encouraged the students towards their achievement. It was succeed by the variety entertainment. As part of the Dept. Association Activity the Literary Association was held on 09.09.2007 with Mrs. K.R. Shakuntala Devi as the special invitee. Events like elocution and pointing was conducted for the students from various discipline. Painting – Indian culture. Elocution – Role of women in Administration Ms. Sivapriya was awarded the I place for elocution and Asha farveen – II BBA for Painting.
VALEDICTORY FUNCTION – REPORT
English Association Valedictory Function was held on 04.04.08. Dr. Noell, H.O.D., Dept. of English, Bharathidasan University was invited as Chief Guest. The function started with Prayer Song. Our Principal Rev. Sr. Sara Jasmine honoured our Chief Guest. Welcome Address was delivered by Nisha, III BBA. Idhaya's Nightingale's presented a group song. One must never command according to the language, one must be humble to learn English Language.
One can learn language at any stage of his/her life time. Doing a course is not best way to learn language. One must properly acquisite language.
According to the context of global economy one must know English Language, Medium is not important to develop one's language. We can say that knowledge of Tamil is acquaintance of English. To develop their language one need to practice and to made hand work. Social interaction and practical interaction is an important modes to improve our language.
One must become humane only when we learn to communicate. What you have learn in the class that should be put into practice in the web of our life. We need to develop our linguistic personality. For human resource question English should be the part of mental make up.
Language must come from deep breath and final spirit of a human being. Communication Skill should be based on training like military food.
Mrs. Shakuntala Devi, Co-ordinator of communication skill, shared some ideas like how she had spend all these months effectively with our students, Our communication students stated some of their opinions, Certificates were distributed to the Communication students. The function ends up with National Anthem.

First English Literary Association
The first English Literary Association started at 3.00 pm on 25.08.01. Dignitaries Invited: Prof. John Bosco, Rajah Sarfoji College, Thanjavur. Topic of discussion : English Language – A Critical Perspective.
The Inauguration of the English Association
It was conducted on 05.03.03 with Mrs. Anne Mary Fernandez as the chief guest. She in her lecture highlighted the significance of Life and Literature.
Importance of English in the society
Mr. Sivaprakasam the additional chief guest offered valuable tips for the emerging students interested in learning English. It was followed by variety entertainment.

12.09.03 - Dr. Natanam delivered a lecture on the Importance of English Language with the precious saying of Shakespeare, Bernard Shaw.
IV Inaugural Function
20.09.03 - For the IV Inaugural Function Rev. Sr. Dr. Philomin Mary FIHM Principal. Immaculate College of Education, Pondicherry was invited as the chief guest.
She insisted on the significance of Listening Skills in her Presidential Address.
She also insisted that a lively gathering is essential for a good lecture.
Listening enables Good Working and Grasping Power.
Spirituality is essential for a complete personality.
A good listener must activate, motivate and relate to the audience.
It was followed by the cultural activities like songs, dance, and drama.
On the whole the lecture reminded of the saying that :
To experience, and experience one has to be present to an experience.
16.06.05 - Bridge Course – 1 year

With this regard the Department of English organized a Bride course for the I year candidates regarding effective communication skills with Mrs. Maria Mercy Amuda M.A. M.Phill, co-ordinated, Whole Brain Management as the resource person.
The Activities comprised of,
Preparing for an interview.
Methods and skills of Group Discussion.
Basic concepts of Grammar.
Word power Games.
Types of sentence, dialogue and articles.
It was followed by the movie review of the film “Larger than Life”. On the closing day all the individual candidates were evaluated on their written and oral skills.
Bridge course – I year-2005
The bridge course for the I year students started functioning from 05.07.05 – 19.07.05
With the following dignitaries:
Mr. Francis Xavier – Director Philomina's Spoken English Class.
Mr. R. Yesudoss – Founder and Principal, Fluency School of English.
The session comprised of activities like.
Adjective, Adverb learning.
Conversation practices.
Fluency skills.
Employment of the learnt communication skills.
Feed backs were obtained for betterment. Evaluation reports were gathered. Grammar items were presented through the medium of songs which was terribly innovative.

24.09.05 - In a state of deep joy were beyond our minds.
Dignitary invited : Dr. V.Badrinath., Prof of commerce, Sastra College, Kumbakonam.
Topic : Relevance and significance of positive and scientific thinking of Effective communication skills.
He motivated the students to equip themselves with the recent advancement for a bright future. It was succeeded by entertainment.
01.07.06 – Mr. Gopinathamanikandam, co-ordinator E- square English Academy conducted the communication English classes for a set of nearly 150 candidates for duration of six months. Certificates were offered to the participants.
02.07.07 – Bridge-course
“Your success is conceived in the mind but your words give it life”. With this idea a Bridge course was organized for 10 days dealing with the various techniques of communication skills.
One is not born into the world to do everything but something.
The course is highly applicable to the above saying.
All Association Inauguration
It was held on 25.07.07 with Mr. Manivel, Dept. of Geology as the honourable chief guest. He delivered a lecture highlighting Love, humanism and the various modes of improving our knowledge towards progress. It was succeed by a variety entertainment of various departments. The Dept. of English offered an English song and North Indian folk score depicting the culture heritage of the North in all its varied colors.
Literary Output
The Dept. of English as part of the literary association organized an Elocution and a painting competition in the of presence of Rev. Sr. Jasmine with Mrs. K.S. Shakuntala Devi as the chief guest cum judge at 2.45pm on 07.09.07 at our college auditorium.
