GURU SHREE SHANTIVIJAI JAIN COLLEGE FOR WOMEN is founded by Shree Mahaveer Jain Kalyan Sangh(Established in 1967), a Voluntary Charitable Jain Assocaiation, dedicated to the cause of education and social upliftment. The College is named after the great Jain Saint Yogiraj Guru Shree Shanti Vijaiji Maharaj of Mount Abu (India) to mark the memory of his birth centenary celebration. We embarked on a mission with a goal of imparting qualitative education to young women, inculcating moral values and instilling confidence in them. Regular Day College was started in the academic year 1995-96. This is a Self Financing College approved by the State Government & Affiliated to the University of Madras. It is also established and administered as Religious and Linguistic Minority Institution.
During the year 1999-2000, the Master of Computer Applications(M.C.A) course was started in the college after getting permission from the Govt. of Tamil Nadu, approval from the All India Council of Technical Education(AICTE), New Delhi, and the affiliation from the University of Madras with full intake strength of 30 students. The approval was extended to the maximum intake of 60 students, in the year 2002-2003 and thereafter.
During the year 2001-2002, the Master of Science course in Information Technology was started in the college after getting the affiliation from the University of Madras with full intake strength of 20students. The approval was extended thereafter.
The college aims to provide and excellent academic environment to augment and accelerate learning in students and reveal their inner talents & potentials. An unique learning experience through which the students acquire the sterling qualities of leadership, courage and truthfulness and become the torch bearers with a noble mission in life.
We have evolved the distinct methodology of teaching to achieve this objective. We maintain high standards of excellence in the academic sphere by providing facilities of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
The college aims to provide a high standard of University education to Women candidates, in order to make them responsible and useful citizens of the society and thus significantly contribute in the development of our Nation.
Mission
To sensitize our young women to their rights and place in society and through them strengthen the nation to help usher in an egalitarian society. The mission of the college is to empower young women to face the challenges of life with courage and commitment, to be builders of a humane and just society, and to promote a learning community in which all, especially those from less privileged backgrounds, feel part of the collaborative high quality educational process which is value based and leads to holistic growth.
In pursuance of this mission, the college has set the following objectives:

To provide technical skills and knowledge and to meet the challenges and competencies among students.

The Department of commerce has carved a niche for itself with its pioneering efforts in providing quality education and holistic development of the students. The commerce degree is a foundation for pursuing professional careers in Accountancy , Finance ,Management , Marketing ,Services ,Insurance ,Human Relations ,International Business etc
The Department strives to be innovative and adds new dimensions by concentrating on the exploration of activities aimed at the improvement of student’s proficiency. Under the able guidance of the Principal and H.O.D., Dr. M.K.Malathi and support of a visionary Management, the Department hosts several activities on specific areas relevant to the current scenario, to equip the students with acumen, insight, communication and other analytical skills.

3 Students scored centum marks in Management Accounting

5 Students of II year and one student of I year secured centum marks in Statistics and Financial Accounting respectively in the Odd Semester of 2007 – 08.

Resource persons from outside are also invited to give guest lecture periodically

Quiz, Debate, Group Discussion are conducted in the subjects class wise and Combined classes
Industrial Visit:
As a part of their curriculum students are taken to manufacturing units
Extra Curricular Activities:
Cynosure an Intra Collegiate function is conducted every year
This year it is scheduled for 26th September 2008

Objective Of The Course
The course aims to train the graduates with latest technical skills required for the IT field. The MCA students are groomed towards orientation of applications. Any under graduate of a recognized university with mathematics as one of the subjects at degree level or at plus two level.
