The Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical care Medicine, was established in the month of October,1992. The department is having all the latest state - of - art equipment relating to Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine. Clinical work cover CT Surgery, Neurosurgery, Urology, Surgical Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Surgical Oncology anaesthesia requirements.

Department of Urology

Department of Urology started catering to the outpatients from 26th February 1993. The operation theatre became functional two months later. The department being well equipped with most modern state of art technology comparable to any other national institute, took off at a high level. Besides general urology the subspectialities like Neuro-urology, Infertility, renal transplantation, endo-urology, paediatric urology, uro-oncology and trauma care grew fast simultaneously. Department of Immunohematology and Transfusion Medicine

Transfusion medicine is the branch of medicine that is concerned with the transfusion of blood and blood components. Blood Bank is a place where blood is collected from donors, screened, typed, separated into components, stored, and prepared for transfusion to recipients. Blood is needed to save precious human lives from accident, burns, heart surgery, organ transplants & patients receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer & other diseases. Department of Nuclear Medicine

Radiation Medicine, now known as, Nuclear Medicine, is a non-invasive and all pervasive novel specialty in the medical horizon. It is a branch of Medicine, which deals with Diagnosis, Treatment and Research, making use of Radio-Nuclides (R.N) produced by Nuclear Reactors and obtained through certain authorized agencies, in India & abroad. To indent these R.N., an Allopathic Doctor must possess the License issued by the Nuclear Medicine Committee of India (NMCI) in addition to the one, that is issued by the Medical Council of India (MCI). To use R.N.

Department of Neurosurgery

The Department of Neurosurgery at Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences was started in September 1993. The department has made great strides forward since then, in rendering modern neurosurgical services to patients. With the acquisition of state of the art equipment it has evolved into a full fledged and one of best equipped neurosurgical centers in state of Andhra Pradesh. The department made significant strides forward since then in rendering neurological services to patients in Rayalaseema area and evolved into a full fledged neurological centre equipped with latest diagnostic facilities in Andhra Pradesh. The Department of Nephrology is a professionally managed unit and dedicated to the advancement in the knowledge and understanding of renal disease, its development, prevention and treatment. Our faculty is at the forefront of patient care. The Department was started in March 1993. Common diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and chronic glomerulo-nephritis can lead to permanent loss of renal functions - with dialysis and renal transplantation being the outcome. Department of Medical Oncology

The Department of Medical Oncology is an integral part of SVIMS university Cancer Centre and has been initiated in June 2001 for the first time in Rayalaseema. The Department of Medical Oncology offers comprehensive cancer care and is responsible for diagnosing and treating all cases of solid tumours and hematological malignancies. Medical oncology is the subspecialty of oncology which deals with the medical management of cancer. It treats cancer with anticancer drugs -chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, immunotherapy, etc.

Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism

The Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism was started in September 1993.The OPD is conducted on all working days. Registration is from 8 am to 11 pm. Patients with endocrine disorders namely diabetes mellitus ,thyroid disorders, adrenal problems, pituitary diseases, gonadal disorders and metabolic bone disease (osteomalacia, primary hyperparathyroidism, fluorosis, osteoporosis etc.)are attended to. Every Tuesday afternoon from 2.30 to 3.30 pm there is a Pediatric Endocrine OPD where cases like short stature, thyroid disorders, obesity, hypogonadism etc.

Department of Cardio Vascular and Thoracic Surgery

The primary mission of this Department is to deliver high quality cardio vascular care. The department was started way back in 1993, when this super-specialty hospital came into existence, under the banner of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. SVIMS have a comprehensive Casualty, which is equipped with 16 beds for life saving medical services to patients under one roof and supported by another 30 beds in MICU and RICU. The Department of Casualty is fully air-conditioned and equipped with sophisticated Monitors, Ventilators and defibrillators. Department of Cardiology

The Department of Cardiology is the first one of its kind in the whole Rayalaseema area of Andhra Pradesh, which offers all the non-invasive, invasive and interventional facilities for all the cardio vascular problems. This department has a fully equipped intensive coronary care unit, non-invasive unit and a cardiac catheterization laboratory, all working smoothly since its inception. The department runs out-patient services on all the days. apart from this, emergency services are available round the clock.

Department of Bioinformatics

The Department of Bioinformatics was established in the year 2003. Our university is first of its kind to start post graduate course in Bioinformatics in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The DBT, Ministry of Science and Technology have approved a centre for Bioinformatics Infra Structure Facility in the Department of Bioinformatics of our University for the promotion of Biology teaching through Bioinformatics as a part of National Bioinformatics Network. Ours is the first medical institution in south India to establish a Bioinformatics centre approved by DBT, Govt. of India.

Department of Biotechnology

The Department was established in the year 2003 with the blessings of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kallam, former president of India and was inaugurated by then chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Sri N. Chandra Babu Naidu.

Department of Biochemistry

Department of Biochemistry started as a small clinical laboratory catering to the basic needs of various departments of SVIMS. Later, it expanded its activities into clinical teaching and research wings. The clinical laboratory was expanded by acquiring state of art equipment and increasing the number and types of investigations performed. Currently, the tests are performed using fully automated techniques and latest methods. Currently around three lakh investigations are carried out per year.
