Department of Nephrology

The Department of Nephrology is a professionally managed unit and dedicated to the advancement in the knowledge and understanding of renal disease, its development, prevention and treatment. Our faculty is at the forefront of patient care. The Department was started in March 1993. Common diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and chronic glomerulo-nephritis can lead to permanent loss of renal functions - with dialysis and renal transplantation being the outcome.

Completed Projects :

=> Optimisation of dialysis
=> Lipid Peroxidation in patients on Maintenance Hemodialysis Lipid Peroxidation in live related transplantation in the peri transplantation period.
=> Effect of renal transplantation and the biochemistry in patients with End stage Renal disease on aintenance hemodialysis.
=> Oxidant injury in acute renal failure - Causative role and prevention.
=> Thyroid hormonal changes in patients on maintenance hemodialysis - Hormonal changes in the peri transplantation period in patients on maintenance hemodialysis.
=> Role of Nitric Oxide in the pathogenesis of glomerulonephritis - Lipids and Renal disease
=> Comparative study of effect of simuotin and O mega-3 Poly Unsaturated fatty acids on hyperlipidemia in Hypertensive subjects.
=> Effect of ponticilli regime on steroid - resistant Nephrotic Syndrome.
=> Biochemical changes in Dialysis - a Study of Changes in free radicals and Antioxidant systems to help in the optimization of Dialysis in collaboration with the Department of Biochemistry
=> Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Gene Polymorphism in Type 2 Diabetic Nephropathy in Collaboration with Department of Biotechnology.
=> Pregnancy related renal failure- 10 year experience

Future Plans :

=> To pursue kidney Transplantation Cadaver/ Live related more actively
=> To start Pediatric Nephrology Unit
=> To start Ph.D programme in Nephrology
