DEPARTMENT OF RURAL TECHNOLOGY

The department of Rural Technology was established in the year 1998 with one of the prime objectives to carryout teaching, research, demonstration, training and extension activities for developing more effective equipments/ tools utilizing appropriate and indigenous technology, skill oriented programme and knowledge of rural people for over all upliftment of rural artisans and cottage industries for sustainable rural development for livelihood improvements.

The other objectives of the course are to present a holistic view of all parameters leading to the rural development with respect to the appropriate technology i.e. socio-economic upliftment through appropriate/ integrated technology it is expected to benefit those who are young entrepreneurs in more areas aspiring to participate in developmental activities for self employment.

Presently the department runs professional skill job orient post graduate and master degree courses related to Rural Technology/Rural Development. The primary motivation behind running these courses is to facilitate appropriate development of science and need- based technology for rural areas.

In the PGDRT and Master’s degree programme have a project/ dissertation work is compulsory. Students carry on their project / dissertation work in reputated educational research institutes and NGO’s.

The course is oriented towards rural development problems. The course is open to students with atleast bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree in biosciences, agriculture, environmental sciences, forestry, horticulture, rural technology, agriculture/ environmental engineering.

Presently the course is organized on annual basis but in coming year it might be organized in semester basis. During the two year of course students receive basic training in each of basic competence domain of their field of specialization and complete their project/ dissertation work. Practical training in the integrated approach through common case studies and research training through the submission of a dissertation / project work.

The department is a member of the Project Evaluator of board of Council of Advancement of People and Rural Technology (CAPART) New Delhi.
