Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry, H.N.B. Garhwal University was established in 1973. The Department has three campuses, Srinagar, Tehri and Pauri. All the three campuses are running UG, PG and research programmes. The research work was started in this campus since 1980 and ever since more than 60 scholars have received D.Phil. on various topics.

Presently the department has a faculty of 5 Professors, 3 Associate Professors and 2 Assistant Professors at Srinagar Campus along with some part time teachers to support the teaching at UG and PG level. The faculty members have been honored by various awards and fellowships such as Young Scientist Scheme of DST, INSA Visiting fellowship, Fullbright Fellowship, Royal Society award, Commonwealth Fellowship, SERC fellowship DST, and UGC Career Development activities. At present the department is running six major research projects and completed more than 20 individual major projects funded by DST, UGC, CSIR, UCOST and DBT, GBPIHED and AICTE. The Department has collaborations with CDRI, FRI and CIMAP. It has successfully organized three national seminar, workshop and conferences during last five years. For giving the students exposure, the Department arranges guest lectures by eminent scholars. In this sequence the lectures were delivered by foreign and Indian scientists of repute.

Our Department is striving hard for the improvement of teaching and research standards. Department is well established with modern equipments like GCMS, HPLC, FTIR, UV etc. Under the FIST level I program, DST provided infrastructure and a Computer Laboratory to the Department. In order to make subject and teaching interesting audiovisual aids OHP, LCD, refined model sets are being used. The achievement of the department is reflected by the placement of its students. The Chemistry Department is honored by its students’ placement in defense, ONGC, State and central government, pharmaceutical companies, as well as in teaching including in Universities.
