In view of strategic importance of Himalayas the departmant of defence & Strategic studies was established in. 1978 and P,G level in 1987, by Garhwal university Srinagar Garhwal to achieve the following objects –

(1) Pramation and development of defence (military) education in Garhwal regions and creation of awareness about National Security among students.

(2) Providing access to high quality education concering Defence and Strategic studies to the intending students. Seeking adminisstion at B.A / M. A / M sc Levels.

(3) Promoting research in National Security and related fields.
