Doctor of Philosophy (PhD Screen and Play Writing)

Ph.D Screen and Play Writing - The most significant part of the PhD Screen and Play Writing and its main focus will be a substantial, original piece of creative work: a novel, a collection of short stories, a collection of poetry, a play script or screen play written specifically for the degree. The criterion laid down for the traditional PhD that a thesis should include ‘material of publishable quality’ should be interpreted in relation to creative work as a statement about quality and not marketability. It is hard to set word limits because of the different requirements of the different genres (counting the words in a collection of poems would not account for its substance). Creative writing is an integral part of this program of study.
