The birth centenary years of Swami Abhedananda Maharaj, one of the celebrated spiritual followers of Thakur Sri Ramkrishna Paramhansdev marked the auspicious beginning of the journey of Abhedananda Mahavidyalaya. Sri Sri Thakur Satyanandadev, the spiritual disciple of Swami Adhedananda and preceptor of Suri Sri Sri Ramkrishna Ashram founded the college under the affiliation of the University of Burdwan in the sacred memory of his spiritual guide. Swami Satyanandadev was a renowned poet, lyricist and highly versed in philosophy. With an eye to spreading and developing education in Birbhum he played a very constrictive role through Sri Sri Ramkrishna Ashram.
