Department of Microbiology

The P.G. Department of Microbiology was established in 1993 as a post-graduate teaching department and research centre in Microbiology and first batch of the M.Sc. (Microbiology) was graduated from the Department in 1995, while the first doctoral candidate with Ph.D. (Microbiology) was produced in 2001. The Department is currently housed in a recently constructed double storied building with a two spacious classrooms, two sizeable post-graduate laboratories, three specialised research laboratories, one seminar-cum-mini conference hall, rich store, departmental knowledge repository, girl’s common, pantry etc. The Department offers two year’s full time post-graduate teaching degree program and a research program in frontier areas of Microbiology with one semester rigorous course work leading to the award of Ph.D. degree. The Department has the expert teachers having a wide and vast teaching, research and industrial experience in the field of Microbiology, Microbial Technology, Microbial Techniques, Molecular Microbiology, Medical Microbiology and Microbial Enzymology etc. The Department enables students to develop an ability to design, conduct the experiments in their individual capacity and interpret the results into appropriate inferences. The instrumental, laboratory infrastructure enables students to have hands on training and rich stores supplies the necessities for experimentation. The alumni graduated from the department work in multifaceted jobs like multinational industries, government jobs, teaching and research, developing own entrepreneurships etc. The recruiters of multi-nationals are always in communication with the Department for hiring the fresh human resource generated at the Department.

VISION STATEMENT
To use the microbiology and it’s relevant and allied areas as a tool for sustainable development of the region and the nation.

MISSION STATEMENT
To create a trained and tailor made human resource to cater the needs of advanced and best science, technology and management in the field of Microbiology for serving the nation and humanity.

AIM OF THE DEPARTMENT
The department promotes varied research programs focused on contemporary issues of basic and applied concepts in Microbiology, particularly on Biofertilizers, Water microbiology and Municipal solid waste management and provides consultative expertise in solving problems relating to interactions among humans, plants, animals and the environment.

The University Post Graduate Department was started during 1993 in collaboration with Department of Botany, Amravati and after a brief period of one year, the department was shifted to separate building in Amravati University Campus. At present department is housed in the building of Department of Biotechnology and need own separate building with adequate laboratory facilities. The department runs 2 years masters degree in Microbiology and also has facilities for research leading to Ph.D. degree. Since its establishment the department is doing its best for maintaining the academic standard.
