    Biotechnology may be viewed as a group of technologies that are applicable to a variety of manufacturing and service industries. It may be noted that biotechnology is not an interdisciplinary field, rather it is multi - disciplinary, involving a wide variety of distinct subject areas.

    Application of Biotechnology is in the following field:
    (1) Agriculture Development of crop varieties with higher yield great resistance to stresses and higher nutritional value.
    (2) Animal Husbandry Development of improved breed of animals with higher milk production, higher animal productivity and with other desirable characteristic, animal feed, etc.

    Relaxation of marks: For all the courses, candidates belonging to Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (as per G.O (P) No. 208 / 66/Edn dated 2.5.1966 and amendments thereof), with a total annual family income not exceeding Rs. 2.5 lakhs, will have a relaxation of 5% marks in the qualifying examination. They need only 45% marks in the case of Mathematics / Biology and 45% marks in the case of optional subjects put together. The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates need only a pass in the qualifying examination. The relaxation of marks in the qualifying examination extended to SEBC candidates only will be applicable to OEC candidates even if they are allotted against the unavailed seats of SC / ST quota.

    Age: Applicants should have completed 17 years of age as on the December 31st of previous calender year. No relaxation in the minimum age will be allowed. There is no upper age limit.

    Common Entrance Examination.
    The students should appear for Common Entrance examination conducted by the Management Association, if such a test is conducted. If not, they should appear for Examination conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Trivandrum.

    Admission Procedure
    Of the total seats, 50% are filled by the students who appeared in the common entrance exam and allotted by the Entrance Commissioner. The remaining 50% of seats goes to management quota.Of this 35% seats are allotted to students considering their marks in Plus 2 exam and entrance exam put together and ranked accordingly. The remaining 15% seats are allotted to NRIS. The State Entrance Commissioner invites applications for government seats and the management invites application from the candidates who have qualified the entrance exam. The State Entrance Commissioner publishes the rank list of candidates who appeared in the entrance exam. He is the person responsible for allotment. Management publishes rank list for management quota students from among the applicants who qualified in the entrance exam. The Chairman, Principal, Director (academic) and Administrator constitute selection team for admission under management quota. The students are selected in the order of merit considering 50% of 12th standards marks and 50% of common entrance test marks.
