On behalf of the participating Universities, the Jawaharlal Nehru University will hold Combined Biotechnology Entrance Examination on Thursday, the 20th May, 2011, for admission to
(1) M.Sc. (Biotechnology);
(2) M.Sc.Agri./M.V.Sc(Biotechnology) and
(3) M.Tech (Biotechnology) Programmes being offered by various participating Universities

For M.Sc in Biotechnology Program:
Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education in Physical, Biological, Agricultural, Veterinary and Fishery Sciences, Pharmacy, Engineering/Technology, 4 years B.Sc. (Physician Assistant Course); OR Medicine (MBBS) OR BDS with at least 55% marks.
The candidates who are due to appear in the respective qualifying examination prescribed as eligibility for admission shall also be considered for appearing in the entrance examination. Such of the candidates will be allowed to appear in the entrance examination at their own risk and on the clear stipulation that in the event of their selection, they will be entitled to admission only if they secure the minimum prescribed percentage of marks in their qualifying degree examination and that they will be required to submit all the documents including final mark-sheet of the qualifying examination (indicating the final and overall percentage of marks) before the deadline for admission fixed by the concerned participating University.
For M.Tech in Biotechnology Program:
Candidate should have minimum 60% marks or equivalent CGPA (under grading system) from any recognized university in any one of the following: B.Tech/B.E. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, Leather Technology, Chemistry/Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Technology, B. Pharma, or M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Biophysics, Microbial Genetics and Bioinformatics.
For M.Sc. in Agri. Biotechnology and M.V.Sc Programs:
Candidates should have bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3/4/5 pattern of education with at least 55% marks or its equivalent grade point average from any recognized university in the concerned subjects.

A candidate can apply either “Online” or “Offline”.
Online Application: Candidates can apply online on payment of prescribed fee if they have access to a computer, a printer and internet by logging on to JNU website.
Offline Application: Set of application form and prospectus can be obtained through post by sending crossed bank draft for Rs.260/- (Rs. Two Hundred sixty only) drawn in favour of Jawaharlal Nehru University payble at New Delhi alongwith a self addressed (unstamped) envelope of the minimum size of 30 cms x 25 cms clearly indicating the program of study for which the application form is required on the self-addressed envelope to the Section Officer (Admissions), Room No.28, Administrative Block, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi 110067. Candidates seeking a set of application form and prospectus from Nepal are required to send a demand draft of Rs.400/- or equivalent in US Dollars. Money Orders and Cheques are not accepted.
Note:
There are different sets of prospectus for each program and, therefore, candidates are advised to apply separately in case they wish to apply for more than one program i.e. (1) For M.Sc. Biotechnology OR (2) For M.Sc. (Agri.)/M.V.Sc. Biotechnology OR (3) For M.Tech Biotechnology program.
Application forms can be submitted by registered/speed post to Section Officer (Admissions), Room No.28, Administrative Block, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi - 110067.
JNU will not accept responsibility for any postal delay or irregularity or loss in postal transit. Please do not send your application form through courier.
For M.Tech in Biotechnology: The question paper for entrance examination will be of 3 hours duration consisting of 2 Streams: (i) Technology stream and (ii) Life Sciences stream.
Technology Stream:Part A: Basic Engineering & Technology at under graduate level, Part B: Physics/Chemistry/Maths at under graduate level, Part C: Fundamental Life Sciences and Informatics at 10+2 level.
Life Science Stream: Part A : Life Sciences (Biochemistry, Molecular Biology & Immunology) at post graduate level, Part B: Physics/Chemistry at undergraduate level, Part C : Maths, Computer & Information Sciences at 10+2 level.
For M.Sc Biotechnology: The question paper for the entrance examination will be of three hours duration and divided into two parts:
Part-A will have multiple choice type questions at the level of 10+2 in the subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. The candidates will be required to attempt 60 questions: total marks for part A will be of 60 marks. There will be negative marking and for each wrong answer, ½ (half) mark will be deducted.
Part-B will also have multiple-choice questions of Bachelor’s level requiring thinking and analysis. There will be questions from Physics, Mathematics, Biology (e.g., Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics and Molecular Biology) and Chemistry. The candidates will be required to attempt 60 questions

The candidate should verify all the information in the admit card. If any issue is found, then get it corrected with the concerned authority.
The candidates are required to carry the admit card to the examination hall. Without it, you will not be allowed to enter the examination hall. It is also very important to document for the further admission processes.
