Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry is an old and premier department of this university, started with the aim of fulfilling the demand of trained human resources to give thrust to ever increasing chemical industry and related field. The department is running a four semester Post-Graduate programme (M.Sc.) with the intake of 50 students having credit based system of examination. The course being offered has a strong inclination towards the theoretical and practical aspects of chemical science. In addition to M.Sc. course the department also offers Ph.D. programme. Since the year 2010-11 the department also started a value added one year P.G. Diploma programme in "Pigment and Paint Technology".

The department is privileged to have a dedicated and experienced faculty with passion for developing academic excellence among their scholars. The young and dynamic faculty of the department has remarkable capacity to adapt to changes, and at the same time pursue the goals and objectives that they have set forth for themselves.

The students are admitted through entrance examination and as per the State Govt. Policy. The department has a optimum teacher student ratio of 1:8 alongwith a very good gender ratio of male & female approx. 1:1.5. Specialization is offered in Organic, Inorganic & Physical branches of Chemistry. The course curriculum of M.Sc. was revised and updated by the faculty members in accordance with UGC model curriculum and in consultation with academic experts by organizing workshop for the purpose. Periodic updating of contents as per the need is a regular process. The curriculum is further supported by other activities like quiz, debates, industrial tours, seminars etc.
