Course Details:

The Master of Pharmacy in Pharmacology (M.Pharm. Pharmacology), is a two years Postgraduate Pharmacy Degree Course in India. The Pharmacology study emphasis on the medicine and biology concerned with the study of drug action and interactions that occur between a living organism and chemicals that affect normal or abnormal biochemical functions. If a substance has medicinal properties, they are considered pharmaceuticals.

The master’s study program is designed to provide knowledge and skills for various pharmacy, healthcare and medical representative they keep the medical practitioner informed about the new drugs and treatment developed by various pharmaceutical Companies.

Pharmacology is a cross-disciplinary speciality comprising counselling and instructions to promote an effective, safe and financially viable use of pharmacological products at all levels. The department gives advice to all doctors on drug use based on specific clinical problems.

The study is focused on theoretical and practical aspects of Principles and Techniques in an academic discipline such as Systemic Pharmacology, Drug Therapy and Pharmacotherapeutics, Drug Evaluation and Advanced Pharmacological Techniques, Pharmaceutical Medicine, Clinical Evaluation and Molecular Biology, Recent Advances in Pharmacology, Research Methodology.

Eligibility

The candidates have to pass their Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm), Education with the minimum aggregate of 50% or an Equivalent Examination, with Biology / Biotechnology as one of the subject, such candidates and Diploma of Pharmacy holders are also eligible. In some States of India, it is mandatory to give an additional Pharmacy Entrance Examination like Common Entrance Test or interview and asked few questions on General Knowledge, Personality, Intelligence Assessment and English Language.

Course Duration / Learning Mode

The Master’s study course requires 2 years of the time period in India. It's a full-time study program, but some institutes also provide part-time learning facilities. There are a number of recognized Universities Worldwide offering online study program and distance learning option in certain criteria.

Further Study

After the successful completion of this course, candidates can also pursue the higher studies and do Ph. D in Pharmacy Pharmacology (Doctorate of Pharmacy in Pharmacology) or research-oriented course in their respective field.

Career Option

After obtaining a Pharmacy Degree and Registering with the State pharmacy Council (SPC), one can start their own Pharmacy or Chemist shop to stock and sell medicines.
